I am well used to stories of ghosts
being potent entertainments,
particularly in the age of digital television
where a defective narrative
that is well supported
by cheap sight and visual effects
will take in the credulous
who in reality were inattentive
because they were waiting
for the next advert.
What scares me more is when
so called ghost hunters visit old prisons,
of the sort where extremely old laws
which were biased against the poor
falsely criminalised them
where the absurdity of those laws
and the loss of freedom they caused
can never be compensated for,
least of all by faked up sound effects.
