Suddenly The Future Seems Clearer

Because the recent past
can no longer go by that fast
 that it defeats my comprehension.
Read why I the present seems smarter

with the presence of  'a smart phone' here.

One Of Many Cursed Things

that proliferates in this world
is the idea of 'Art that pays for itself',
and pays the owner/artist quickly
-inviting them to make much more.
When work pays well, more often that not
good work declines into less creative work later.

The love of money is no better for art,
than it is for a positively good life,
Where such love makes one life better
it makes many other lives worse.

Democracy Sometimes Has Feathers

particularly when those voting
happen to be turkeys who don't know
that they are voting for Christmas
until after the slip is in the ballot box.

Polluted Vehicles

The President vs the print media is nothing new.
Trump is not even the first president to use twitter
-he simply the loudest and most loutish to use it so far.
In 1808, towards the end of his two term presidency
and perhaps out of weariness, Thomas Jefferson wrote

'Nothing can now be believed which can be seen in a newspaper.
Truth itself  has now become suspicious for being put in polluted vehicles.'

What is worthy of note is how fast
Mr Trump has made his mistrust of the media,
an industry he has been in for half his life,
integral to his presidential agenda.

Almost A Miracle

Modern science
is the most expensive
cheap grace humans
have ever devised
for their own comfort.
In how it looks and feels
it is almost a miracle.

But the long term effects
of what we now live by
has yet to be realized.
Only when they are
will we know the true price
and value of what we know.

The Armchair Life

I now understand why I dislike middle aged men
discussing television sport within my earshot;
they are armchair sportsmen sharing shopping lists
of likes and dislikes whilst actively avoiding
the outlets that supply what they are gossiping about.

Their interest in the athleticism and competition
on the screen is so easily eclipsed by the adverts
which support the broadcasting of the sport
that it is really the ad breaks they are buying into.

There Is No Market For Cynicism

The market is cynicism in the way,
with each transaction, it values,
and more often devalues,
people, goods and services.

Whatever Is Wholesome

will in all probability
also seem quite light,
and be quite deep,
whilst proving to be solid.

And at its heart
there will be humour.

When Size Matters

The problem with teaching competitiveness
is that the teacher always has to be bigger
than the taught, and when small pupils
grant themselves the superiority over others
that they imagine their teachers have over them
then the teacher is every right to be scared
and ask; 'When my pupils exercise power
over people who are weaker, and more tender
than they are, will they have the same humility
that I once aspired, or presumed, to have?'.

The Prayer Of The Man Trapped In Room 101

Lord defend me from the people
whose sole definition of themselves
is their otherness from the people
in whom they see no need for empathy. Amen.

On 'Hate Figures'

We all know them, public figures
who's every word and action we loathe.
We can be hate figures for others too,
and all without us ever realizing it.

But think on this; emetics will produce bile
-that is their function. And human emetics
exist to help us understand our hatreds better.
And with improved understanding our bile
will be reduce which will make us more phlegmatic.

No Need For War With Rumour

It was Republican Senator Hiram Johnson,
quoting Aeschylus the ancient greek playwright,
who said 'The first casualty in war is truth'.
Senator Johnson quoted the phrase during WW1
and he died the day that Hiroshima was gifted
with the first explosion of an atomic bomb.

Thank goodness we have progressed since then.
The media is now much broader, multi-platform!

Whilst the military/industrial complex
still needs to be fed juicy gov't contracts
there is less need for the U.S. to distribute
the products from it over all the poorest
peoples of the world, as if  the U.S.A.
were amnesiacs, forgetfully re-enacting
a less charitable version of 'The Marshall Plan'.

With an ever expanding media
we simply tell ourselves more lies
about everything under the sun
-particularly about true science
and the needs of foreign peoples.

Good Often Works Best In Secret

The most quoted parable in The Gospels
has to be the parable of 'The Good Samaritan'.*

What could be more subversive
than asking the wealthy and righteous
-the people who can't see their own hypocrisy-
through what we would call 'fiction'
about the ritually unclean, the dirt poor,
and outsiders, folks who do good deeds
to maximize the limits on their lives
rather than 'because they want to',
and not out of self seeking zeal?

When thrift and efficiency drive them
then the poor don't need to see the rich
and ignorant to give more and be better.

Good works best with less piety.

*Luke Ch 10 verses 25 to 37

Punch/Pull

I am struck by the difference
between 'punching above your weight'
and 'pulling more than your own weight'.
Each has their own force of gravity.

In the former the projected aggression
blinds people to their own weaknesses
until they receive such a level of force
back at them that only their honesty
about how weak they now are
can renew their strength of character.

In the latter we give, and give more
than we feel that we have in store,
within us. But for having given
we are open to receive in return.
Gratitude, both spoken and undeclared,
are the means by which we are replenished.

Welcome To The New Fear

For as long as there is a media
there will be talking heads
-people to fill the airwaves
regardless of their ability
to think logically on their feet,
or their lack of it.

What I will not live with,
and makes me turn off the news,
are the shouting heads,
the ignorant rhetoritians
whose main aim is self enrichment
through deliberate inequality.

Their wealth is built
on making rational thought
and good grammar their enemy.

Open Relationships

require peoples minds to be open,
much more than they need bodies
willing to engage with each other
-which they usually do most easily
whilst disengaged from everything else
that is going on around them that makes for 'home'.

The Cloth Of Life

Middle Age is like a pair of pyjama bottoms.
Both lose their youthful elasticity over time,
particularly around the waistline.
In each some parts of the material
suffer greater wear and tear,
with greater need for repair,
than happens in other areas.
Finally, both require frequent inspection.

The patching up of what we are,

and what we are attached to being,
is never as easy as we like to think...

The Market For Ideas

I like the way ancient Greek philosophers
described the market places they walked through
-as places where they would exchange ideas
at least much as buy the food stuffs they lived on.

I much prefer that notion over 'the market'
as conceived 2000 years later by Adam Smith,
where money is the only means of exchange
and the only idea is the value of goods,
relative to each other as mediated by money.

Smith's market is a place where people and ideas
are worth what people will pay for them,
before they are left to rot, and lose all value.

Putting The 'Tort' Into 'Torture'

Laws and lies will refine gov't policies,
with lawyers 'fighting' on opposing sides,
both whilst being highly paid, as refugees take refuge
in ever colder and more distant nation states
who believe themselves to be immune
from all natural, human, and physical law
in their refined and alienating hysteria.

Evolution At Work

Though somewhere out there, there is one more highly evolved
six armed monkey that does all three cover ups completely by itself....
