Novels are anecdote,
informed the shaggy-dog logic
of 'modern psychology'.
That is not to say
that novels are bad;
many are more reliable
than the human friendships
through which we exchange,
and pass on, values and materials.
For as much as they remain,
in print, and read, novels do offer
an eternity through language
that we can only try to understand.
