As Easy As Dreams

Eugene Polley died today,
he invented the remote control.
The device which makes the armchair
life more luxurious, and television
viewing as easy as dreams.
Many could say his invention
was a nifty bit of engineering,
if they cared enough,
or knew how these things are made.

He did well to make inactivity
so enticing, and passivity so quietly passive
to the point that by merely pushing buttons
we can instantly summon, and dispose of,
millions of temporary, and faked, worlds.

He could have been a figure
from a Philip K. Dick dystopia,
he has remade us to live that way.

Everything and Nothing

Genetically Homo sapiens
are practically a monoculture,
though our division from
the great variety of creation
is by the smallest of differences.

This small variation grants us
mastery over all other species
which is why we know everything
and understand nothing
about what we don't know.

How we advance surprises me.
Human science is a prayer
to an unknown deity,
who in his infinity has no humility.

If Scientists Must Torture Animals

let them practice on journalists,
politicians and royalty first.
Let those who seek the most power
seek to serve those with no voice,
who have no choice
when they are experimented on.
