Woody Allen was not thinking of dementia
when he quipped 'I am not afraid of death,
I just don't want to be there when it happens'.
But it would quite apt if he was.

The Wisdom Of Solitude
'The difference between sex and death
is that with death you can do it alone
and no one is going to make fun of you.'

Shadow and Light
Like everyone else
I daily 'do my best to be myself'.
Like many, I often see others
as being better at being me than I am.
The natural choice with depression
is to create a shadow self
behind which to hide from life,
whilst living with the numbness
of a lack of recognition.
To paraphrase Woody Allen
'I don't mind living, I just don't
want to be there when it happens'.

The Young Woody Allen
was asked 'Is sex dirty?'
after trying to look sheepish
he replied 'Yeah, if it is good'.
I admire religions of dirt,
where the faith is brewed
in secret, like poitin,
and it renews in the imbiber
equal measures of mirth,
melancholy and passion.
