When Satisfaction Is Something To Be Bought

Young men who live in cities
live as if they own those places,
but they never have and never will.
They are little boys in bodies
that are enlarged by appetite and choice.
Their vanity is a given.
With enough money they can have a sex drive
to match, and the consequent thirst for property
(something that is more difficult to secure).

But they will also have
a shrunken attention span
for the gentler detail of life.

Young men who live in cities

little realising the place own them.

bodies enlarged by appetite.

When their money is matched
by their testosterone and adrenalin
then they will have the sex drive
of their choice, and then have
the thirst for owning property.
Each allowing them autonomy.

But they will realise all too late
how their eye for the gentler detail of life
shrank without them realising it.
