One of the symptoms of depression
that is harder to unravel than folks realize
is that how other people
will make you feel mean and cheap.
Particularly when they say
'We always do our best for you'
and other cliched responses.
They will make it seem
that all attempts at getting rid of bad feeling
are purely a reflection of ones' self.

The Weight Of Indifference
is always hard to measure.
But it will always be revealed
by how unlistened to we feel,
long after the bad listeners,
who left the weight upon us,
have departed our lives.

Lessons In Avoidance?
As school pupils how were we meant
to separate the crude authoritariansim
that was rife throughout all of society
(including systems of education)
from the free access to the information
that leads to choice and self knowledge?

For As Much As Families Exist
they will lay claim to us
-that is their reason for being
which we too take part in,
in ill health and great wealth.
It is up to the individual
to make others more individual
to make a life less forced by family ties.

Collective Irresponcibility (2)
In my youth the word for heterosexuality
was marriage; there was nothing else.
Both the idea and the word disguised
wanting to be kept-projecting it instead
as the meeting of the needs of others.
When the lies convinced them enough
then people married, then the thin veneer
that held up hope was thinned some more
leaving the newly weds nothing to hide with.
Thus every child grew up by being told
'One day you will be a parent like us,
and you'll depend on a well paid job',
as if it were natural-more than luck
and more than the channeling of cliches.
In more coercive households
children learned through behavior
that the only escape from being bullied
by family was to become a parent,
and the head of a separate household.
Thus the next child to be reared in condescension
will be merely the latest repayment of a debt
which everyone denies is never ending.

I Admire Lionel Shriver
She spoke on Woman's Hour on Radio 4 in May.
Commenting on the psycho-pathology of family relationships
she said 'The more we give [to family] the more we owe them'.
To which I would add that the more we try to repay the debt
the less they want it to be repaid, and the more indifferent
but posessive they become towards us, whilst disguising
how they want to increase our neediness for them.
What can anyone do when modern nuclear family values
and consumerism turn into emotional debt bondage?
