It Is Easier to Hug A Tree Than Truly Absorb An Idea

I see nothing wrong per se with books
like 'The Power of Now', for helping folks
cut through the crap that they are sold
as 'life in full colour' as part of materialism today.
But I feel sure these books all too easily
empower the slippery slope that ideas
are for selling, rather than embodiment.
This is proven by the number of trees felled
in the manufacture to sell us the idea of the lived life
at it's fullest. The trees had no ego to renounce,
and when they were felled to be pulped
to furnish the shelves of shops and homes
with ideas in words, purchased but undigested,
the by now ex-tree, rendered as paper, did no more
than help us pretend to park our egos apparently safely.
When originally they helped all life breathe easier.

Welcome To The New Economy

Where if it is not nailed down it will be sold/privatized to bankrupt the future sooner.

Signs Of Greater Age (30)

1-when confronted with on-line requests
for a password you have forgotten
for some website you had to be cajolled
to join in the first place, they always make
compulsory the 'offer' to reset the password,
and the only words that fit the box
that you can remember are expletives.

2-when traveling still wanting to write
and send postcards to friends,
even whilst knowing that in this digital age
such old fashioned lines of communication
don't have the impact with their recipients
that they once had, unless the picture
is local and truly outstanding.

The Circularity of Life

'The Circle Of Life'-Sam Brown, from here.

Cheap Grace In Language (3)

One of the laziest
and most loathsome phrases
in modern English parlance,
second only to that weasel word 'lifestyle',
is 'We are here to raise awareness of ...   '
(add the issue the speaker then mentions here).
It means 'I am telling you to do something
about issues  X and Y, whilst doing Zed, Zero,
to mature how I think or change my behavior'.

Why Do Animals Not Celebrate Birthdays?

It is not because they don't have a calendar
-they do and it is what we call a natural Sat Nav
or an internal clock, and their sense of time is Millenia
older than ours, and actively functional.
Nor is it because as kin they are distant,
though many species thrive with the most minimal of familial values.
No. The reason is that that animals are incapable
of celebrating birthdays is because as such,
those days are human markers of longevity
which exist to hide our side, the sarcasm and secrecy
at the expense of celebrating others
which animals could not dream of copying.
They would intuit how they would suffer
from how toxic such 'family values' would become
long before we do-if we ever became that advanced.

Blood

is not thicker than water,
it just turns us into bigger clots
which are harder to wash away.

I Am So Glad Of Western Amorality

Particularly when Heaven is awash with terrorists.......

I Am All For Machines

'learning to think, and becoming empathic'.
There can be nothing wrong with machines
doing that for us-and if they could achieve that
they would reinvent the human world, to boot.
But it would be better for the world we inhabit,
to try improve our old selves, from within,
rather have machines change who we are
-but only on the surface-from without.

Signs Of Greater Age (29)

1-when making a significant purchase
preferring to be in a real queue
with real people whom you can see
and count, however little you relate
to them, rather than a virtual queue
on the end of a phone line,
with unknown numbers of callers 'ahead'
of you and canned Vivaldi for company.

2-Not noticing when the human world
increases the speed at which it shares
and grabs at people, the better to appeal
to youths hung up on tricking their way
past the moment for there always being
'more to do'. Your moments seem fuller
for being more calmly lived through.

Cheap Grace In Language (2)

How easily people use sarcasm
to disguise what is in their minds
when they want to avoid sharing,
for fear of being out-rightly rude,
or sweary, to others. Even though
the cause of the suppressed
comment may well deserve it.

The Entropy Scale

To see life in the longer term, then measure longevity on the entropy scale
-the rate of growth and decay for everything-big and small-in the universe,
as portrayed by western science in the astonishingly short time
in which that discipline has developed. Then in humility
see human life on the scale of the pre-human history,
rather than in the speed at which humans have discovered those events.

Proof Of Vocation

If misanthropy
is what moves you
then proving unpopular
will be what proves you,
to others and yourself.
Beyond all doubt.

The Sideways Life

As a teenager I read Kierkegaard,
not that I absorbed what I read very well.
But some time after I left the town I grew up in
I understood better than many his most concise quote
-'Life is lived forward but understood backward'.

I now live in rural Northern Ireland and now realize
why 'The Troubles' are so misunderstood.
It is not the partisan misreporting of the events,
though that happens. Nor is it because the phrase
'The Troubles' so aptly describes a lack
of a shared narrative history, which explains
why people resist exploring their backgrounds,
with too much vigour lest they, their family
or their 'community' prove culpable for some deed
they don't want to see their part in-everyone goes through that.

The reason is because there are so many small towns,
and small town life is always lived in lower case.
Progress only ever moves sideways.
In the sideways life deeds are smaller than it seem
and repeat themselves, and townsfolk can't look back
because in small towns life does not move forward.

Enforced Modesty

And it had controlled my ideas about it for some time as well....

A Small Loss For The Universe

Being so uniquely adaptable
in so many circumstances
is the human miracle du jour
that is also Planet Earth's
self defining tragedy.
I hope life on other planets
is less miraculous.

Government-The T Shirt

This is called called consistency by governments,
who, just like the public, prefer to not acknowlege
that Democracy is about changing the human face
of the ineptitude, rather exchanging it for a leadership
that will genuinely reduce future ineptocracy.

Happy Ghosts

When happy ghosts visit us
they don't feel like ghosts
when we receive then.
That is their secret.

Unintelligent Design

Only an unintelligent and highly insensitive species
with no sense of proportion would conceive of a science
to explain themselves and ennoble it as 'intelligent design',
when in their ignorance  the great mass of people
have little understanding of what science actually is.
