When computers became popular,
and took over from landline phones
as a worldwide means of communication
over thirty years ago there was a promise
they came with: our future communications
will seem important than they do present day.
Most days, nowadays the billions of internet users
can dial up the past of their choice, as if to live for a while
where the trivia of the recent past seems more important than it was.
When the past is surely more attractive
than today's political and social unrest
because the past not longer matters.
