Pretense About Debt

is what divides the have-nots from the haves
and sets the invisible line between them.
Many seem content at being sold more,
but what puts a person into one set or the other
is that the haves will frighten their debtors
into infinitely deferred repayment,
with the sheer size of their expectation.

Whilst those with less don't need proof
to know that they'll be cut less slack
and have to cut back what they cost.
And still those with less are more likely
to share with those who have less than them.
