Disability Awareness

Few people think of Alan Turing,
the inventor of the principles
by which modern computers work,
is having dyslexia.
He is much more famous
for the oppression of his sexuality
and his chosen means of ending it.
Nonetheless it is true, and still no excuse
for the proliferation of poor spelling on-line.
Though I am sure, had he lived to see it,
he would have been gratified by spellcheck.

  1. It has been pointed out to me that there are different types of spellcheck available in however many countries that have them. These spell checkers help people get beyond self confessed 'poor grammar'. The point of my blog remains that the computers we use were invented by somebody whose grammar was lacking and his inventiveness-whether his grammar was good or bad-mattered more than his grammar. We still need inventiveness more than we need acceptable grammar.
