Picture Set of The Month - March - Moroccan Star Sand Dunes

Are in the news as natural phenomena that also
appear on Mars and Saturn's biggest moon, Titan. 

Where the base of a star sand dune can be
up to 13,000 years old whilst the peaks
are typically nearer 1000 years old.

A star dune is formed by the wind blowing
in two opposing directions – from the south-west
 and the north-east – leading to the sand building up.

A steady third wind that blows from the east shifts
the dune slowly west at a rate of about 50cm a year.

Picture Set Of The Month - September - Worn Breakers On The Beach

I took these picture in late spring 2023
when I needed a walk and my camera was my company.

Most visitors to the beach would not notice
these figures, they are nearly all just a few inches tall.  

But their shapes, worn and shaped by the water,
was what drew me towards them,
I thought the textures were other worldly. 

This end of the beach, at Newcastle Co Down
is not that popular anyway, which increased my delight.

I thought of the figures as abstract representations
of characters from 'Alice in Wonderland'.

 

Today's Saint; Saint Hubert

St Hubert (658-727) was born in Toulouse 

He is the patron saint of hunters.
His wife died giving birth to their son.
In his despair Hubert gave himself up
 to hunting and saw the sign of the cross
in the antlers of the most magnificent stag
 that he had ever seen.

The Lord spoke to him, saying 
'Turn to me or you will go to Hell'.
He prostrated himself before the stag
and sought the Lord's Direction.

Would that more of today's hunters
could be similarly afflicted of the heart
and seek to kill less and live to let live better.

Would that in Heaven's name 
he would damn to Hell
all the pharisee-like inversions
 committed in his name.  

Dystopias Come In Many Shapes And Sizes

With the trees netted no bird can nest,
 though insects might feed

but developers will feed even more
by breaking the the spirit of nature

but keeping to the letter of U.K. law.

In Vino Violence

Life can never be too exciting for some people

Or, in truth, too extreme.

Beauty And Ruins

often go together very well in human perceptions.

Never more so than when they make the unsustainable life

seem to be so far away that it had nothing to do with us.
