Seeking Absurdist Employment

I never thought to turn to the existentialist playwright
Samuel Beckett for advice for job interview technique,
when I applied for the jobs that I did not get,
and then applied for more jobs I did not get.

I missed the opportunity when I was before an employer,
to paraphrase Samuel Beckett, as I explained to them
'With each application for a job where someone else
got the work, I was training myself in how to fail better.'.
I did not give the employer the whole Beckett quote

'Ever tried. Ever failed, Try again. Fail better.'.

Employers are not reknowned for their absurdist,
existentialist, sense of humour. If they were,
and I had used my explanation, I might have got the job.

In Beckett We Trust.....

With so many states and empires in the world,
including the old and emerging superpowers,
fail in their duties towards their citizens
and in the wars so many declare on each other
in pursuit of covering up older failures with new,
the wisest advice that the citizens of the world
can reassure each other, and their government,
with is to quote Samuel Beckett to each other

'Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better.'.

Failing Better All Year Round

Beyond the will to write, I find sustainable
new year's resolutions impossible to follow.

By the middle of Feb, when I write this,
I know that everyone who made a resolution
six weeks ago will have found it easy at first,
and then some sudden drop in support
will make maintaining the change a struggle.

When the struggle get too hard, the focus shifts
to some lighter distraction, the resolve started
in times of ease will then be quietly abandoned,
with no recognition that the aim of the change
was complex
enough to need better backing
than it was given when it was started.

With only the sense of rest on the day
the resolution was made for support
all will to keep up change collapses.

The best all year round resolution was said
by Samuel Beckett 'Try again, fail again, fail better.'.
If you follow that, and back it up with solid support
you fail well indeed. You'll be the best failure ever.

Error For Error

The best any parent can hope for
is the longevity to find that their mistakes
were small enough for them to be forgiven
whilst they are still alive, rather than their errors
become so all consuming that they have to die
to be well mis-remembered.

The second best that a parent can hope for
is that if their children become parents
then the children's make their own mistakes
and do not take up their parents errors.

Let each generation fail on their own terms
and let all hope that the future has the grace,
and finds the means to accept Samuel Beckett's
quote 'Ever failed, no matter, try again, fail again, fail better'.
