Great Turn Off's Of Our Time (26)

When someone says
'I don't have a problem with
(insert difficult subject here,
say Frank Zappa)' it might be true.
But the phrase that is often implied,
and never needs said that follows it is
'But I know enough people who do'.

Everyone 'has problems' with some subject,
or other, personally speaking I have a problem
with people who won't process their problems,
even slightly, and they won't change their shape
.

They expect the world to defend their troubled pasts,
not realising that everyone has to reshape themselves
and no issue is so exceptional as it can't be resolved.

Great Turn-Offs Of Our Time (19)

One phrase that makes me disinclined
to believe a given writer or speaker
is 'I have always....  '. Beyond breathing
I disbelieve that anyone could be so consistent,
in their habits from the past to the present day
and for them to still be accepted by others as alive,
particularly when changes so much around them.

Turn-Off's Of Our Time (20)

When we hear an adult
use the phrase 'The System'
when referring to one of the many policies
of just one government department among many,
as if that one policy stood for everything about the government,
then surely we are hearing the youth inside the adult.

In the phrase 'The System'
we are hearing the bitter memories
of a person who felt choice and wealth
turned against them, long after it happened.

Memories like these are more common than we like to think.
