Have Hand Cart, Will Travel

If the doomsayers are right
and The Earth is the hand cart
in which we are all going to Hell,
sending the animals there first,
then maybe we can do nothing
to put the brakes on
particularly when we see it as 'Progress'.

But whilst there are breaks
by which to slow down our departure
then I still have some trust
that they will keep alive for longer
what humans accept that they rely upon.

Unfounded

The more clearly we look back
on what, long after events,
we should have done at the time
the less we can do now
to correct life the present,
for lack of foundation.

In The Guilt Zone

there is no solution.
There inertia reigns
and feigns morality.

Give Thanks

I wonder why it is that drivers
who have that well directed lady
known as  'Ms Sat Nav'
don't thank her more often
when they arrive calm
and on time at their destination.

She might be 'just a machine',
but if we saw the world,
including it's machines
in more personal terms
and said 'Thank You' for good service,
where ever it came from,
we would be less indifferent
about what we truly rely upon.

Lead Me Not

Temptation is the oldest trigger,
about which we have to be warned.
But praying to be lead from something
that is so deeply a part of us is asking
to be led far away from ourselves.

Avoidance

The closer a subject is to us
the more it will matter,
and more we want the talk about it
to be accurate and personal.

But the more all too many people
who claim to know us, but actually don't,
then speak in impersonal generalities.

Revelations

Police have concluded that God was blame
for releasing the answers to questions
on a popular Religious Studies exam paper,
well before pupils were due to take the exam.

Papers were prepared for a prosecution
but now they too appear to have be stolen,
and released so widely to an eager press
that the case was a foregone conclusion
before it could ever have reached a court.

God was guilty, but since he is Judge
and insane by human reason,
his court is beyond all rational defence.

He can no longer be prosecuted for anything,
least of all spoiling a small competition
set one year, by Man for Man, of little value.

The Analogue Household

I am well behind the times.

Until I was told I didn't know
that 'life hacks' meant 'household tips',
the sort of thing that in my youth
women's magazines were full of
which I much admired at the time,
even though I was not meant to.

My household must stuck in analogue time.

Grey Pride

I have seen the masses of youths
displaying all their unstable energy
in public spaces to get their point across
and still I have not 'got' what they want.

why are they are saying
that 'Love is a human right'?
I'd settle for the affirmation
of everyday respect any day.

Faith Requires Good Timing

faith almost requires serendipity to make it work,
whereas the temptation to error is persistent.

 Where humans usually go wrong
is telling the difference between the two.

The Unexplainable Explained

Believe in God.
Believe in irony.

Believe in both at once
and you may be more human
than you previously realised.

You are on the path to learn the humour
that makes absurdity seem like grace
and puts a positive grace into absurdity.

Oblivion Means Oblivion

When we have done
doing over the planet
with our good intentions,
and want to give it a rest,
as if we might pass the test
of knowing what to for best
-then we will find out, too late,
that we always were the sixth extinction.

Rust Never Sleeps

And whether you are a straight or a hippy,
entropy is always quietly, but definitely, in control.
Entropy is our guide for the life to come...

Anonymous Messages

Just as when a noise is made in a forest
it might not have been made
if there is nobody there to hear it,
so when we leave messages
on phones that are never heard,
might it be that we never said anything?

At best we were talking to ourselves
whilst talking into the phone.

The Prerogative Of A Harlot

was how one British prime minister
described the desire of the proprietors
of some newspapers to report more freely
the deeds of the rich and powerful
to the downtrodden poor of the 1930's-
a poor who were partially downtrodden
by the press themselves-
as wealth went about serving itself.

The prerogative of a harlot
was freedom without responsibility,
surely something that the governments,
even now, preferred to keep for themselves.

Coming To, Late In Life....

When as you age
you realise you are far closer
to being the sort of person
you use to look up to and admire,
and privately yearn to be like,
then you can start to relax
-having to pretend has come to an end....

The Biggest Ask

Religions are like human beings.

When they accept they can't know it all,
get rid of the need for false mystery,
and somehow stop worshipping themselves
with all the technology under the sun,
then they can start to be true
to something bigger then themselves.

That is when we will listen to each other better.

Action And Understanding

When what we learn
is backed by violence
then whatever we were told,
whatever we mis-remember,
the memory of the physical force
will be what moves us most.

A Good Trick

It is a good trick, if we can make it work,
when we make others care more for us
than we care for, or about, ourselves.

This goes well beyond the usual
adults feigning helplessness
whilst being very childish-
which they do without thinking.

This trick requires us
to make the balance
of care by others vs our carelessness
seem proper and virtuous
to those that the careless
expect to care the most.

It is all so very tempting.....

Great Turn-Offs Of Our Time (13)

'To make myself clear here.... '
is a phrase used by public speakers
who are desperate to make sure
that when later others argue their case,
what they say sounds muddy and doubtful.
Even though the argument is as clear as it can be.

Disconnecting From You Now.....

Whatever The News is about
it always features The Self Important.
And if the events it tells us about are real
(and not made up merely to distract listeners),
then they happen so far from where listeners
are to the events are that they don't, can't, know
that they are meant to feel disconnected
from what they are listening to;
by design, distance creates distraction.

So don't worry when you want
to turn off your television or radio,
or their online equivalent,
because their talk makes you feel
like a silent extra in your own life,
or a bystander so far from the event
that your views don't really matter;
your response is entirely natural.

Do something else,
whatever you like,
to return your sense
of time and yourself
to who it rightly belongs.
